ara T. “Sally” Tomasello, 84, a current resident of Ginger Cove and previously of Ulmstead Estates, passed away on April 28, 2017. Sally was born on January 25, 1933 in Pennsylvania to the late Ralph and Vivian Thomas. After her mother’s death, Sally’s aunt and uncle welcomed her into their home and raised her as their own. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1950 and immediately went to work at NIH. Sally worked as a secretary until her first child was born, then became a full-time wife and mother. She loved entertaining and Christmas, spoiling people with gifts and attention and hosting a crab feast every year. An avid bridge player, Sally was an active member of Ginger Cove’s Friday Bridge Club. She also enjoyed playing tennis and bowling in her younger years. Her greatest passion, though, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sally was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, John C. Tomasello and her daughter, Cathy Mahon. She is survived by her son, Ken (Tammy) Tomasello of Waldorf, MD; daughter, Donna (Stephen) Rodriguez of Yorktown, VA; seven grandchildren, Joe (Lindy) Tomasello, Tara (Michael) Gollem, Diana Tomasello, Sara Fields, John Anderson, Daniel and Christopher Rodriguez; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Loie (Howie) Rudge of Phoenix, AZ.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local chapter of the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
